Reasons to Consider Dental Implants

Missing teeth can affect your appearance, diet , speech, general health and can have many other effects. Bridges or dentures can fill the gap, but they lack the biting forces of real teeth. Dental implants bond naturally with the jaw to provide a stronger natural foundation for replacement teeth. They can also help prevent deterioration of the jaw bone and a prematurely aged appearance.

We replace lost or badly damaged teeth with dental implants for natural-looking and long-lasting smile restoration. Call us today on 02 9412 3805 to find out more or send us a message.

Who can get dental implants?

Dental implants are a good option for most people who are missing teeth, or who have teeth that are too badly damaged or decayed to save. To be a good candidate for dental implants, you should generally:

  • Be free from oral health problems like gum disease
  • Have enough bone in your jaw to support the implants
  • Not smoke or be willing to quit, as this can affect the implants’ success
  • Not have a medical condition that affects bone healing

We will assess your suitability for implants during your consultation and explain the procedure so you can decide what’s best for you. If you’re not eligible for implants, you may still be suitable for an alternative such as a bridge or dentures.

What to expect from dental implants

The dental implant procedure varies, depending on how many teeth you need to replace and the type of implants chosen. There are a range of implant options including:

  • Single tooth replacement with an implant and crown
  • Replacing multiple teeth with a bridge on two or more implants
  • All-On-4 implants replacing a full arch of teeth on 4 (or more) implants

The first stage of implant treatment is assessment, we will check your eligibility and develop your personal treatment plan. Your implants will then be placed in a minor surgical operation performed under local anaesthesia or other sedation as needed.

For standard implants, we’ll fit a temporary bridge or denture over the top while your jaw heals and bonds around the implant. This usually takes around three months, during which time we’ll schedule visits to check on your progress. Once healing is complete and the implant is stable, we can fit your permanent teeth.
